Flying History
Private Pilot License at the age of 37. Lived near Hyde Field in Clinton, Md. Got tired of watching all the planes flying over my home - I wanted to be up there flying them!
Have flown various aircraft including Waco, Staggerwing, and even a Stearman, Grumman Tiger & Yankee, Citabria, Mooney, and various Piper and Cessna models
55 hours in a Robinson R-22 helicopter - 33 of which were ferrying a new helicopter back from the factory in California
Assisted in the restoration of a Baby Ace
Through contacts at a helicopter flight school I worked at on weekends, I had the opportunity to travel to and live in Togo, West Africa for over a year as a radio operator with Evergreen Helicopters. They were under contract with the World Health Organization to treat the rivers for the black fly disease (Onchocerciasis). Also visited Evergreen's base on Ivory Coast while in Africa
Have been with the Flying Circus Airshow in 1996 and 1999 (took off 2 years while I worked on my instrument ratings). It's great to be back at the Flying Circus - to interact with the visitors and to see them smiling, laughing and enjoying the show!
